Did you miss our recent Instagram and Facebook posts on the most important safety tips homeowners should follow during the spring storm season? No worries, Above Par Construction has you covered! Below, you’ll find all five tips for maintaining your home during storm season.
Spring Storm Safety Tip #1: Trim Your Trees
Spring storms are notorious for knocking down trees and branches. Be prepared now for what Mother Nature throws your way later. Remove dead branches that could end up being dangerous projectiles in a severe storm and cause damage not covered by your homeowner’s insurance. Trees and limbs should be at least 10 feet away from your home.
Spring Storm Safety Tip #2: Walk Your Property
Walk around your property – inspect for any damage from winter. Small damage to roofs & chimneys can be big headaches after a severe spring storm. Check your gutters – they should be clear of debris to drain properly.
Spring Storm Safety Tip #3: Inspect Your Roof
If you can, safely get on your roof for a springtime inspection.
- Check that shingles are lying flat and sealed down. Lifted shingles drastically affect a roofs ability to repel water.
- Assess your chimneys flashing to be sure that it is intact and sealed properly.
- While you’re up there, make sure your gutters are in tact and if there are any obstructions clear them. Finally, point downspouts to drain away from your foundation.
Spring Storm Safety Tip #4: Check Your Sump Pump
Spring runoff and severe rainstorms can result in flooded basements. Make sure your pumps are running smoothly so they can do their job when you need them. If you think you have storm damage, contact Above Par Construction immediately. We offer free contactless inspections and will work with your insurance company to ensure you receive all the necessary components covered for your replacement.
Spring Storm Safety Tip #5: Review Insurance Coverage
As a homeowner, you should know exactly what your policy covers, or doesn’t cover. You do not want any surprises in the event of storm damage.
